Artisan Moritsugu (守次), Aoe school of Bitchū
Era Enbun 2 (1357), 11th month (Nanbokuchō period)
Explanation This is a work by Moritsugu of the Bitchū Aoe lineage. Not only in Moritsugu’s oeuvre but also within the Aoe group more broadly, shōbu-zukuri construction is uncommon. Moreover, the workmanship here differs somewhat in nuance from their usual manner: the suguha takes on hotsure, giving the tempering an atypical flavor for the school.
