Artisan Hōki no Kami Taira Ason Masayuki (伯耆守平朝臣正幸)
Era Bunka 4 (1807), 8th month (inscribed: made at age 75)
Explanation This is an NBTHK designation document (shiteisho) for a katana signed “Hōki no Kami Taira Ason Masayuki,” bearing an additional inscription stating it was made in Bunka 4 (1807), in the 8th month, at the smith’s age of seventy-five.
The document records a robust shinogi-zukuri form with iori-mune, wide mihaba, a comparatively long nagasa, and deep sori, terminating in chu-kissaki. The tempering is described as a gunome-midare mixed with chōji, enlivened by kinsuji and sunagashi; the nioiguchi is noted as bright with thickly adhering nie. The bōshi is midare-komi, ending in hakikake and returning. The tang is ubu, with katte-sagari yasurime, kurijiri tip, and a single peg hole.
On the basis of this appraisal, the blade was designated Jūyō Tōken on April 14, 1988 (Shōwa 63).
