This is a wakizashi made by Yokoyama Kaga Suke Fujiwara Sukenaga, dated to the 8th month of the 9th year of Tenpo (1838). The blade is signed on both sides, indicating it was made by Sukenaga at the request of Kiku Ippuku Wayu, residing in Bizen Osafune. It is an Edo period (Shin-Shinto) blade with a nagasa of 51cm and a sori of 1.6cm.

The Shinshintō revival

We could not find an authenticity certificate on the seller’s listing. Japanese swords and fittings are normally papered by the NBTHK (or the NTHK). Without one, the attribution is the seller’s own assessment and has not been independently verified — treat it with caution and ask the dealer about certification before buying.
