About the maker
Oei-Bizen Sanemitsu實光
This is a wakizashi by Sanemitsu, an active smith in the Osafune region of Bizen Province during the early Muromachi period. Sanemitsu is known as a representative smith of the 'Oei Bizen' school, alongside Morimitsu and Yasumitsu. This blade exhibits the characteristic Oei Bizen style with a well-forged hada of itame mixed with mokume, fine nie, and a vibrant hamon of gunome mixed with choji and angular elements, making it a valuable and excellent example of Sanemitsu's rare work.
