It has arrived! Since ancient times, the Hon'ami family has attributed mumei works to Taima when they exhibit a jigane with undulating itame-hada mixed with chikei, and extremely intense nie activity such as shimmering kinsuji within the ha. It is said that high-level Soshu masters such as Shintogo Kunimitsu and Soshu Yukimitsu looked upon authentic Taima swords as their teachers and emulated them in their sword-making. The Taima school is said to display a strong Soshu temperament and is treated as exceptional among Yamato smiths. The Taima school was a group of smiths subordinate to Taima-dera Temple at the foot of Mount Nijo (present-day Taima, Katsuragi City, Nara Prefecture), with Kuniyuki as the founder around the Shoo era (1288, 738 years ago) of the late Kamakura period, and they flourished through the Nanbokucho period. While names like Tomoyuki, Tomokiyo, and Tomotsuna exist, there are almost no extant works with a mei.
This sword is a work from approximately 700 years ago in the Kamakura period. It exhibits a courageous tsukurikomi with a wide mihaba, high shinogi, wide shinogi-ji, and deep sori. The jitetsu is a well-kneaded ko-itame hada with abundant ji-nie and chikei, showing a refined jigane. The hamon is suguha style, shallowly notare mixed with ko-gunome and nijuba, with frequent yo within the ha. Towards the upper part, the nie becomes stronger, manifesting kinsuji that are bright, clear, and magnificent. The boshi is nie-laden and hakikake.
This sword greatly influenced the so-called early Soshu-den, and its style was inherited to the point where it has been said since ancient times that Soshu Yukimitsu and Taima are separated by only a paper's breadth. The clarity of the ji-ha and the abundant nie activity provide many highlights, making this a superior masterpiece that can be called the "white eyebrow" (best of the best) of Taima attributions. It was designated as Juyo Token in the early 13th session. As this is its first time appearing on the market, we are offering it at a special low price. Please enjoy this famous sword, a Taima attribution Juyo Token of a caliber rarely seen.
