Description Form: A sanshomono set comprising kozuka, kogai, and a pair of menuki. Material:
- Kozuka and kogai: shakudo nanako-ji
- Menuki: gold ground (kinji) Design: Design of goats beneath a solitary pine (hitotsu-matsu ni yagi zu). Decoration:
- Kozuka and kogai: gold crests (kinmon), takabori with iroe
- Menuki: yōbori (sculptural carving), shakudo okigane with iroe Reverse: Kozuka and kogai backed with gold (kin’ura). Signature:
- Kozuka and kogai: signed “Kunirō Yoshihide” with kaō (国郎芳英花押)
- Menuki: unsigned; attributed to Yoshihide (無銘 芳英)
Artisan Kunirō Yoshihide (国郎芳英); the menuki are attributed to Yoshihide.
Era Late Edo period.
Explanation Following examination, this sanshomono set with a design of goats beneath a solitary pine—its kozuka and kogai executed in shakudo nanako-ji with gold crests and takabori iroe, and its menuki made on a gold ground with sculptural carving and okigane iroe—was designated as Juyo-Tosogu on October 9, 2001, by the Society for the Preservation of the Japanese Art Sword.
