Interestingly, many of his swords were originally registered in Aichi Prefecture. According to his memoirs, his interest in Japanese swords began in the third grade, when he was hospitalized for appendicitis. While exploring the home of the hospital director with the director’s second son, he discovered a military sword and used it to cut bamboo on a nearby hillside. Fascinated by the beauty of Japanese swords, he later decided to become a swordsmith. This sword appears to have been custom-made for Iaido. It features a beautifully forged ko-itame hada and an impressive reverse gunome hamon. Weighing an astonishingly light 825g without fittings, it offers exceptional balance and produces a pleasant hi-nari (groove sound) when swung. The blade is also in excellent condition. The koshirae features a newly rewrapped tsuka in black cowhide leather. The fuchi, kashira, and tsuba are Edo-period fittings. Particularly noteworthy is the magnificent kashira, decorated with the Big Dipper (seven stars) in gold and silver inlay. The entire koshirae is also in excellent condition. A genuine Japanese sword this lightweight and well-balanced is exceptionally rare. Combined with its elegant, high-quality koshirae, this is an outstanding sword for Iaido. It is ready for immediate use upon purchase and is highly recommended.
