Description

This tsuba depicts a bird of prey resting on an old pine tree, symbolizing the shogun. Crafted from thick shakudo, the detailed carving captures the texture of the mossy pine and the soft feathers of the bird, with sharp claws and beak highlighted in gold. Takase Eiju, also known as Isaemon, was a master metalworker from Mito, renowned for his realistic depictions.
