This is a tanto by Gassan Sadakatsu, who was born in Osaka in Meiji 2. He inherited the superior techniques of his father, Unryushi Sadakazu, who was a master and Imperial Household Artist. Sadakatsu was known for his diligent and strict approach to his work, performing rituals and prayers when forging sacred swords for the Imperial Family and shrines.
