This is a tanto made by Gassan Sadakatsu from Osaka in August of Showa 14 (1939). Sadakatsu was the son of Gassan Sadakazu and was born in 1869. He forged swords for the Ise and Meiji shrines, as well as swords for army and navy officers. His family's signature ayasugi-hada is beautifully crafted.
