The twentieth century nearly killed the craft twice: wartime distortion, then the occupation ban. The NBTHK’s founding in 1948 and licensed forging from 1953 rebuilt the sword as an art, crowned by Living National Treasures and the mukansa rank.
This is a hirazukuri tanto by Gassan Sadakatsu, made in 1933 to commemorate the birth of Emperor Akihito. It features a beautiful ayasugi-hada (Gassan-hada) jigane and a suguha hamon. The tanto comes with a shirasaya, a gold foil habaki, and an aikuchi koshirae with a black roiro saya, and is accompanied by an NBTHK Hozon Token certificate.
