【Special Selection Item】 Katana: Mumei (Den Shikkake) The 27th Juyo Token (Important Sword) Registration: Tokyo No. 116244 Showa 38, June 11th Legal Classification: Katana Mei: Mumei (Den Shikkake) Nagasa: 69.4 cm Sori: 1.5 cm Motohaba: 2.85 cm Sakihaba: 1.95 cm Kasane: 0.65 cm Sugata: Shinogi-zukuri, Iori-mune. The nagasa is standard, the sori is shallow, and the chu-kissaki is slightly extended. Kitae: Itame-hada combined with Nagare-hada, with prominent Masame-hada towards the shinogi-ji. Jinie is thickly applied, and chikei appears. Hamon: Chu-suguha style with a slight uchi-no-ke and hotsure. The nioiguchi is deep and bright with abundant nie. Sunagashi and kinsuji are frequently seen. Boshi: Yakitsume style with a slight hakikake. Nakago: O-suriage, saki-kiri. Yasurime are kattesagari. Three mekugi-ana. Koshirae: Uchigatana Koshirae Tsuba: Mokko-gata, iron ground, sukashi design. Fuchi-Kashira: Shakudo-nanako ground, autumn insects design in takabori and iro-e. Menuki: Shakudo ground, floral design in takabori and iro-e. Saya: Black roiro-nuri. Explanation: The Shikkake school is one of the Five Schools of Yamato (Yamato Go-pa), located at the Shikkake-ishi within the grounds of the Todai-ji Temple in Nara. Among the Yamato schools, Shikkake is known for having the most characteristic Masame-hada. This blade is an O-suriage Mumei work attributed to Shikkake. The kitae shows a beautiful combination of Itame and Masame, and the hamon is a bright Suguha rich in nie activities like kinsuji and sunagashi. It is a masterpiece that fully demonstrates the characteristics of the school and has been designated as Juyo Token.
