This is a katana by Izumi no Kami Kanesada, dated to the 8th month of Keio 3 (1867), the same year as the famous sword owned by Hijikata Toshizo, vice-commander of the Shinsengumi. It features a robust construction with a thick kasane, strong shinogi, restrained sori, and an extended chu-kissaki. The masame-hada jigane shows ji-kei along the grain. The suguha hamon has bright ko-nie, becoming stronger near the monouchi, with yubashiri, small kinsen, and sunagashi forming a niju-ba.
