Sengoku Seki was an industry: smiths organized under their tutelary Kasuga shrine, arming the war bands of central Japan. Magoroku Kanemoto’s sanbonsugi and the finest Kanesada work prove quality survived inside mass production.
This is a tanto made by Masatoshi of Sakakura Seki during the late Muromachi period. The blade features a fine Ko-itame hada and a Nie base Gunome midare hamon with Hakikake Boshi. It comes with both a shirasaya and a koshirae, and has an NBTHK Hozon Token certificate.
