A fine Owari iron tsuba of circular form, executed in bold ji-sukashi openwork. The design centers on the seppa-dai , surrounded by a highly stylized composition of lightning ( kaminari ) motifs and cloud-like forms . The geometric lightning elements extend above and below the central plate, while the symmetrical side elements create a strong sense of balance and rhythm. The robust construction, restrained decoration and substantial iron rim are characteristic of the austere aesthetic associated with Owari sword fittings . The openwork is particularly effective in allowing the negative spaces to dominate the composition, giving the tsuba a distinctly architectural and powerful appearance. The iron surface shows a dark, subdued patination, with the slightly irregular contours and robust mimi contributing to the impression of an early and functional Owari work. The reverse displays the same openwork composition and confirms the considerable thickness and relief of the plate. Dimension: 74,1 mm x 74,0 mm x 6,2 mm (Seppa) - 5,6 mm (Mimi), 86,1 g
