The tsuba has a dark, deeply patinated iron surface with a substantial, organically shaped rim and pronounced three-dimensional construction. The central seppa-dai is integrated into the composition with broad structural supports, while the surrounding pine trees are rendered with open spaces and punched details that give the design considerable visual depth.
