The first generation Jumyo’s home province was Yamato, and he is said to be the great-grandson of Gaito; while no extant signed works from the Kamakura period exist, this is a prestigious lineage that continued for over 580 years until the end of the Edo period. This moroha tanto was crafted by the Jumyo who received the title of Tango no Kami, born in Tensho 8 (1580) (446 years ago). He resided in Noshu Shimizu as Kondo Sukezaemon, moved from Shimizu to Bishu Kiyosu during the Keicho era, and later moved to Nagoya in Kanei 5 (1628) (398 years ago); it was around this time that he received the title of Tango no Kami. This Jumyo exhibits a moroha tanto sugata in shinogi-zukuri with a standard moto-mihaba and sori, resulting in a sun-nobi shape. The jigane is forged in itame-hada. The horimono is magnificent, featuring a hataboko (banner-spear) carved on the omote and a suken carved on the ura. The hamon is a nioi-deki gunome-midare with ko-nie, interspersed with kinsuji and nie-suna within the ha, appearing bright and well-executed.
