This katana by Kazusa Junin Masanao is a superb example from the late Edo period, designated as a 23rd Juyo Token. It features a well-forged itame-hada with mokume, thick ji-nie, and faint utsuri. The hamon is a vibrant mixture of notare, gunome, choji, and togari-ba, with abundant activity including yubashiri, ashi, ha, kinsuji, and sunagashi, all contributing to a bright and clear nioi-guchi. Masanao was a student of Kiyomaro and part of the Yamaura school.
