Artisan Kuniyasu

Explanation This is an , unsigned that has been traditionally transmitted as the work of Kuniyasu ( Kuniyasu). Kuniyasu is said to have been born in Yamashiro Province; one tradition holds that he was the grandson of Kunisue (来国末). Later he is said to have moved to , where he became the founder of the Chiyozuru line (千代鶴派).
At first glance, this blade may appear akin to the Yamashiro “original ” workmanship of Kunimitsu (来国光). However, upon close examination, there are aspects in which the workmanship yields by a step; accordingly, the traditional attribution () is accepted.
