Yamashiro is the courtly tradition of the old capital — Kyoto. Its smiths worked for the imperial court and the great temples, and their blades are prized for refined, tightly-forged ko-itame jigane and elegant suguha temper. The Awataguchi and Rai schools are its enduring summits.
