Explanation In the period, swords produced in were exceptionally numerous, second only to those of . In addition to the earlier and Naoe makers, many smiths worked in Seki, Hachiya, Akasaka, Shimizu, and other places; toward the end of the period, Seki became the principal center.
This blade is a work by Kanekuni of the Naoe group. Among smiths using the name, it is appraised as not descending later than the Ōei era (1394–1428). Its workmanship is also good.
