Jumyo is a prestigious lineage of swordsmiths continuing since the Kamakura period. It is believed they originally migrated from Yamato. Drawing from the lineage of the Yamato Tegai school, they moved to Mino Province during the Kamakura period and continued to be active in their home province of Mino and neighboring Owari until the late Shinto period. Because the name "Jumyo" (meaning "long life") is auspicious, these swords were highly valued in samurai society as gifts for celebrations or as offerings.
