NihontoWatchNihontoWatch八代忠時は、文化2年、家督を相続し、かの有名な「赤坂鐔由緒書」を提出した忠時である。 本作は、やや小振りな竪丸形で、切羽台から耳に向かってわずかに肉を落としている。蘭の葉と花を形良く透し、地鉄は、精良ながらもわずかに地肌に小錆が残って残念である。ともあれ、八代忠時在銘の一枚であり、貴重な一品といえる。

The NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords) is a public-interest incorporated foundation founded in 1948 and supervised by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkachō); it is based at the Japanese Sword Museum in Tokyo. Its expert panels physically examine each submitted work (shinsa) and issue a certificate (kanteishō) ranking it by artistic and historical merit. NBTHK papers are the most widely recognized standard of authentication for Japanese swords and fittings.
