Description

This is a mumei tsuba attributed to Shinkichi Fukanobu, the second generation of the Shinkichi school, a branch of the Higo tsuba makers. Born in 1786, Fukanobu's works are known for their sincerity and elegance, often featuring intricate openwork designs. This particular tsuba, depicting a crab using the seppa-dai as its shell, is a celebrated masterpiece published in several art journals and exhibited at the Kumamoto Prefectural Museum of Art.
