This tanto is signed Yusui-shin Sadayoshi, dated January Showa 57 (1982). Sadayoshi, whose real name is Tomoriki Imazu, learned from Gassan Sadakatsu, a master known for Ayasugi-kitae. He received the character 'Sada' from his master and established his forge in Mishima, known for its abundant spring water, adopting the names 'Yusui-shin' and 'Yusui-shi'. He aimed to emulate master smiths of the Koto period such as Soshu Masamune, Sadamune, and Yamato Hosho Sadayoshi, researching jitetsu construction by experimenting with oroshigane made from old nails. This tanto is an 'osoraku-zukuri' tanto, based on a work by Shimada Sukemune, said to have been owned by Takeda Shingen.
