This is an o-suriage mumei katana attributed to Echizen Seki. The Echizen Seki group of smiths, such as Kanenori and Kanetsugu, migrated from Mino Seki to Echizen province during the early Edo period (around Genna era). At that time, Mino swords were highly regarded by warlords, and many skilled Mino smiths moved to other provinces. Echizen, in particular, became a domain of Yuki Hideyasu, son of Ieyasu, after his military achievements in the Battle of Sekigahara, and was responsible for guarding the northern flank of the Tokugawa shogunate. This led to a strong martial spirit and high demand for swords and spears in the region.
