This is a signed (zaimei) Shimada Sukemitsu. Although attributed to Shimada, the workmanship is reminiscent of the Yamashiro school, with well-forged itame, dense ji-nie, beautiful sunagashi, deep nioi-guchi, and fine kinsuji along the ha-fuchi, resulting in a magnificent small-midare masterpiece. The Shimada school had a master-disciple relationship with the Soshu Odawara smiths, and technical exchanges were actively conducted. They forged swords for warlords such as the Imagawa of Suruga Province, the Takeda of Kai Province, the Hojo of Sagami Province, and the Tokugawa of Mikawa Province. 0 yen (Tax included)
