Chu Naminohira Odachi This Naminohira Odachi, though on the shorter end of being one, is in very good condition. It is a sword that was designed to be used, but wasn’t. It’s a massive sword, both in length and in dimensions and is very heavy in the hand. Swords like this really give a feeling of what the samurai used to use while riding into battle, it’s the type of sword that a Samaurai would stake his life on if necessary. Being from the Chu Naminohira school, this sword was made from the latest part of the 14th century to the roughly mid 15th century. This shows exactly what we should expect from a healthy sword from this era. Features include very typical activity style to this school with running Masame Nagare hada that has a mixed Ayasugi like appearance. The Hamon is based in Suguha Hotsure, with plenty of Kinsuji and Sunagashi, the boshi is based in Komaru. All Wood Tachi Koshirae Now this Tachi Koshirae is the first time I have ever seen something like it. It is a Tachi Koshirae of substantial age, appearing to be from around the Momoyama era, possibly earlier or possibly a little later. The most striking thing to consider with this Koshirae is that the entire thing is made of carved wood. The tsuba, seppa, fuchikashira, menuki, ashikanamono, semekanamono and ishizuki kanamono are all made of carved wood. This is extremely abnormal, and indicates that this sword and the koshirae it in was in a shrine for a substantial amount of time. Wood is also a symbol of purity in shinto, being on a sword like this is another indicator that this sword spent a long time in a shrine.
