This is a masterwork tanto by Shodai Nobukuni, a supreme swordsmith of the Nambokuchô period, bridging Rai and Sôshû traditions. It features a wide hira-zukuri shape, fine itame mixed with mokume jihada, and a ko-nie-laden notare-chô hamon. The blade is adorned with distinguished horimono and comes with late Edo period aikuchi koshirae, including exquisite silver menuki and a Gotô school kozuka.
