The twentieth century nearly killed the craft twice: wartime distortion, then the occupation ban. The NBTHK’s founding in 1948 and licensed forging from 1953 rebuilt the sword as an art, crowned by Living National Treasures and the mukansa rank.
This is a gendaito wakizashi made by Moriyoshi, a Mukansa Tosho and Important Intangible Cultural Property holder of Kumamoto prefecture. The blade measures 1 shaku 8 bu (approximately 32.8cm) and comes with a shirasaya. It is an excellent work of art with the Soshu-den style burned into its grand appearance.
