This is a katana by Tanigawa Moriyoshi, a Mukansa-ranked smith born in 1920 and active in Kumamoto Prefecture. The blade features a unique katakiriba-zukuri shape on the omote side, reminiscent of works by Soshu Sadamune and Shizu Saburo Kaneuji. The jigane shows a well-forged large itame mixed with mokume and thick ji-nie, while the hamon is a shallow ko-notare with gunome and ko-gunome, deep nioi, and abundant ko-nie and sunagashi.
