This is a newly made katana, a reproduction of the famous Nikkari Aoe, crafted by Kimura Kanehiro (Akamatsu Taro Kanehiro) from Kumamoto Prefecture. Born in 1961, Kanehiro specially forged this blade as a custom order. The original Nikkari Aoe is attributed to Sadatsugu of Bitchu Aoe during the Nanbokucho period, known for its legendary association with a smiling female ghost.
