This is a katana by Hoju, a swordsmith from Mutsu Province in the Nanbokucho period (around Meitoku era). It features a swirling itame-hada and a nie-deki suguha hamon, characteristic of the region. Hoju's father, Bunju, is traditionally believed to be the maker of the Genji family's Hige-kiri tachi.
