The twentieth century nearly killed the craft twice: wartime distortion, then the occupation ban. The NBTHK’s founding in 1948 and licensed forging from 1953 rebuilt the sword as an art, crowned by Living National Treasures and the mukansa rank.
This is a modern katana by the highly skilled swordsmith Ueda Sukesada, known for creating exceptionally sharp blades. It is a specially commissioned reproduction of a Sadamune work from the Nanbokucho period, featuring a powerful sugata with a large kissaki, tightly forged itame-hada, and a beautiful gunome-midare hamon. The sword comes with newly made koshirae and a shirasaya, making it suitable for both appreciation and tameshigiri.
