Modern sword Chikusyu ju Muneshige saku with Koshirae. 筑州住宗重作。宗弘刀匠に学び、宗勉刀匠とは兄弟弟子にあたる現代刀工の一振りです。刀身は研ぎ直し済みで、よく詰んだ板目肌に、迫力ある互の目刃文を焼いた見応えある出来。拵は江戸期金具を用いた拵に鹿革巻きの柄を合わせ、鞘は新調済み。鑑賞はもちろん、居合・試斬にも使える、状態良好な現代の業物です。 A work by Chikushu-jū Muneshige, a modern swordsmith who studied under Munehiro and was a fellow disciple of Munetsugu. The blade has been repolished and displays a finely forged itame-hada with a powerful gunome hamon, making it a highly impressive piece. The koshirae is mounted with Edo-period fittings, paired with a deerskin-wrapped handle, and the scabbard has been newly made. In excellent condition, this modern wazamono is suitable not only for appreciation, but also for iaido and test cutting. 「刀姿 sword figre」鎬造り庵棟、身幅太く重尋常、鳥居反り、大鋒。茎は生で化粧鑢がかかり、茎尻は入山形。 Shinogi-zukuri with an iori-mune. The blade has a broad mihaba and standard kasane, with a torii-zori and an ō-kissaki. The nakago is ubu with kesho yasurime, terminating in an iriyamagata nakagojiri. 「地鉄 jigane」地鉄は板目肌でが良く詰み、所々杢目が交じり流れ心となり、地沸付き地景が入る、宗一門の特長的な強い地鉄です。 The jigane features a tightly forged itame-hada mixed with areas of mokume, showing a slightly flowing grain. Ji-nie covers the surface, with chikei running through the steel, creating the strong and distinctive jigane characteristic of the Mune school. 「刃紋 hamon」刃紋は互の目が逆さがかり、刃緑沸が付き砂流しかかり、刃中葉が入り金筋が働く。帽子は乱れ込み小丸に返る。 The hamon is a gunome pattern with a saka-gakari tendency. Nie appears along the habuchi, with traces of sunagashi. Within the hardened edge, yo are present, and kinsuji activity can be observed. The boshi runs in a midare-komi pattern and turns back in a small komaru. 「特徴 detailed」筑州住宗重、本名・古城重昭。昭和7年(1932年)生まれ。師は、宗勉刀匠の父である宗弘刀匠で、宗勉刀匠とは兄弟弟子の関係にあたります。宗重の作品には、刀工銘に「笹露(ささのつゆ)」を冠して製作された刀などがあり、宗勉刀匠の作品と同様、優れた斬れ味を持つ現代の業物として高い評価を得ています。本作は、おそらく鑑賞用として大切に保存されてきたものと思われます。しかし、刀身に錆が生じていたため、研ぎ直しを施しました。地鉄はよく詰んだ板目肌を呈し、刃文は迫力ある互の目を焼いた、見応えのある素晴らしい作品です。拵は、江戸時代の金具類を用いて仕立てられており、柄は鹿革で巻かれています。鞘は新たに作り直しました。また、鯉口付近の刃側約15cmには、割れ防止のためベークライトによる補強が入っています。刀身・拵ともに最高のコンディションを保っており、刀身はバランスに優れ、手持ちも軽く感じられます。鑑賞用としてはもちろん、ご購入後すぐに居合や試斬にもお使いいただける一振りです。 Chikushu-jū Muneshige, real name Koshiro Shigeaki, was born in Showa 7 (1932). His teacher was the swordsmith Munehiro, father of the swordsmith Munetsugu, making Muneshige and Munetsugu fellow disciples. Among Muneshige’s works are swords made with the smith’s signature prefixed by “Sasanotsuyu.” Like the works of Munetsugu, his blades are highly regarded as modern wazamono swords with excellent cutting ability. This piece is believed to have been carefully preserved, most likely for appreciation purposes. However, as rust had developed on the blade, it has been repolished. The jigane shows a finely forged itame-hada, and the hamon features a powerful gunome pattern, making this an impressive and highly attractive work. The koshirae has been mounted using fittings from the Edo period, and the handle is wrapped in deerskin. The scabbard has been newly remade. In addition, the blade-side area near the koiguchi, extending approximately 15 cm, has been reinforced with Bakelite to prevent splitting. Both the blade and the koshirae are in excellent condition. The blade is well balanced and feels light in the hand. This is a sword suitable not only for appreciation, but also ready for immediate use in iaido or test cutting after purchase. 「拵 koshirae」ハバキ : 銀無垢一重の腰祐乗鍔 :鉄地木瓜形笹の図。縁頭 :鉄地団栗の図。目貫 :赤銅地笹の図。柄 :鮫は親粒が付き巻鮫、柄糸は鹿革鉄色の諸摘み巻き。鞘 :黒石目。「刀身の状態 condition of blade」研:研ぎあげたばかりです。傷:欠点に成るような傷は有りません。
