Description

This is a tsuba from the Kumagai school, also known as Edo Higo or Yotsuya Higo. The tsuba features a chrysanthemum and paulownia design, executed in iron with hammer marks, sukidashi carving, openwork, and inlays. The Kumagai school was known for improving upon Higo Jingo-style carving techniques and using gold and silver inlays.
