NihontoWatch上手な清麿写しを作刀することで有名な、肥後熊本の赤松太郎。兼嗣(木村兼定)は赤松太郎一派の長で、新作刀展では連続受賞しその高い技量と華やかな丁子刃で人気を博している。師は父の木村兼重で、人吉藩城主のお抱え鍛冶の家系。自らの手で砂鉄を採取し、自家製鉄によって玉鋼を精製する鉄へのこだわりでも知られている。 本作は兼嗣と宣広の合作で、2尺5寸の豪快な一振。得意の蛙子丁子刃文は高低差激しく見応えたっぷり。地鉄は詰んだ小板目で鍛えも良く、もちろん疵気も見あたらない。広い身幅と長さのわりには手持ちが良く、約800gに抑えられている。鑑賞はもちろん、居合・試斬刀としてもお勧め出来る。白鞘入り。
