Description

This katana was forged by Motooki, a craftsman from Aizu, in the second month of Ansei 6 (1859), the year after the Treaty of Amity and Commerce was signed. Motooki, born in Aizu in Bunsei 1 (1818), was known as Kakudaike. He moved to Edo in Ansei 6 and studied under Ishido Korekazu. He changed his name to Akihide in Keio 1 and received the title of Yamato no Kami in July of the following year.

Description

This katana was forged by Motooki, a craftsman from Aizu, in the second month of Ansei 6 (1859), the year after the Treaty of Amity and Commerce was signed. Motooki, born in Aizu in Bunsei 1 (1818), was known as Kakudaike. He moved to Edo in Ansei 6 and studied under Ishido Korekazu. He changed his name to Akihide in Keio 1 and received the title of Yamato no Kami in July of the following year.
