NihontoWatchThis is a modern katana by Akamatsu Taro Kaneteru, a renowned swordsmith from Kumamoto, featuring a beautifully forged ko-itame hada and a flamboyant jūka-chōji hamon. The sword is new old stock, having been carefully stored for many years, and both the blade and its Higo koshirae are in exceptionally fine condition. Despite its long length, it is well-balanced and suitable for immediate use in Iaido.

Shōwa to the present: destruction and revival
The twentieth century nearly killed the craft twice: wartime distortion, then the occupation ban. The NBTHK’s founding in 1948 and licensed forging from 1953 rebuilt the sword as an art, crowned by Living National Treasures and the mukansa rank.
