NihontoWatchNihontoWatch附属 特別保存刀装具鑑定書(小鐔)、桐箱 武州住正次は江戸時代後期に江戸で活動した武州金工の一人で、現存作には草花や樹木など自然を題材とした作品が見られます。武州鐔らしい堅実な鉄味を基調としながら、繊細な高肉彫や毛彫を駆使した装飾性豊かな作風を示し、本作もその特色をよく表した優品です。 本作は鉄地丸形の大小揃で、満開の桜樹を主題として高肉彫と毛彫を駆使し、桜花が鐔全体を包み込むように配された華麗な構成を見せています。花弁には金象嵌を散らして風に舞う花びらを巧みに表現し、枝越しに設けられた透かしが景色に奥行きと軽快さを与えています。鉄地は緻密に鍛えられ、落ち着いた黒味を帯びた地色と金象嵌の鮮やかな対比が美しく、耳にも丁寧に金象嵌が施されることで作品全体に一層の気品を添え、武州金工らしい写実性と装飾性が高い次元で調和した見応えある大小鐔に仕上げられています。 小鐔にのみ特別保存刀装具鑑定書が付属していますが、これは本来大小一組で伝来した本作が遺産相続の際に兄弟で分けられ、小鐔を受け継いだ弟が単独で審査に提出したことによるものです。その後、大小揃で保存されることが望ましいとの判断から大鐔と再び一組となり、今日まで本来の姿で伝えられています。 こうした来歴も本作の魅力の一つであり、保存状態も極めて良好で、大小揃ならではの統一感と完成度を備えた、資料的価値と鑑賞価値を兼ね備える優品です。

The NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords) is a public-interest incorporated foundation founded in 1948 and supervised by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkachō); it is based at the Japanese Sword Museum in Tokyo. Its expert panels physically examine each submitted work (shinsa) and issue a certificate (kanteishō) ranking it by artistic and historical merit. NBTHK papers are the most widely recognized standard of authentication for Japanese swords and fittings.
