This is a shakudo sukashi tsuba featuring a polished ground and a decoration of a tsudzumi, a Japanese hand drum. Pine branches are intricately made with flat inlay gold wire on the drum. While an almost identical tsuba has NBTHK attribution to the Bushu School, another example of this tsuba has been attributed to Kaga Kinko. The tsuba is crafted from beautiful dark blue shakudo and dates to the late Edo period.

We could not find an authenticity certificate on the seller’s listing. Japanese swords and fittings are normally papered by the NBTHK (or the NTHK). Without one, the attribution is the seller’s own assessment and has not been independently verified — treat it with caution and ask the dealer about certification before buying.
