This is a tanto by Sakai Ikkan-sai Shigemasa, born in Shizuoka in 1905. He was a student of Kasama Ikkan-sai Shigetsugu, mastering both sword forging and carving techniques. The blade is dated to an auspicious day in midsummer of Showa 59 (1984).
