This is a tanto made by Nagahiro from Suo Province during the late Edo period (Genji 1st year). The tang bears a detailed inscription by Nakatani Sadaomi, commemorating the receipt of this sword from Lord Mōri Takachika for his meritorious service in the swift construction of the Katsusaka Sekimon (barrier gate) in Chōshū Domain. It was cherished as a treasure for self-defense and national service, reflecting a significant piece of Bakumatsu-era history.
