This tsuba features a bamboo fence motif, known as tokusagaki, with thick inlays and colored enamel on the rim, designed to enhance the beauty when mounted on a koshirae. The realistic depiction includes curved surfaces, grains, and nodes of bamboo, with thread-like openwork between the bamboo pieces. Sakuma Yoshihide was a Kinko artist active in the late Edo period, specializing in nikubori-jisukashi (flesh carving openwork) of plants and grasses.

We could not find an authenticity certificate on the seller’s listing. Japanese swords and fittings are normally papered by the NBTHK (or the NTHK). Without one, the attribution is the seller’s own assessment and has not been independently verified — treat it with caution and ask the dealer about certification before buying.
