Perry’s arrival in 1853 unraveled the Tokugawa peace and created the first mass demand for working swords in two centuries. Kiyomaro, called the Masamune of Yotsuya, died on its eve; Munetsugu and Yukihide carried the boom to the end.
(Famous also in Touken Ranbu) This jumonji yari was made by Gassan Sadayoshi. The lineage of Oshu Gassan came to Edo around the first year of the Bunsei era and became a monjin of Suishinshi Masahide, who is known as the founder of Shinshinto. In the 4th year of Tenpo (1833) (188 years ago), he moved to Osaka. While one might wish to claim this is a jumonji yari by the first generation Gassan Sadayoshi, who built the foundation of the Osaka Gassan prosperity, there are no definitive works signed "Ushu-ju Gassan Sadayoshi," so please regard this simply as a magnificent jumonji yari with the mei "Ushu-ju Sadayoshi." Future generations will surely research this further. The "Ochidori Jumonji Yari" used by Sanada Nobushige (Sanada Yukimura) is currently surging in popularity; he used it while serving in Toyotomi Hideyori's army during the Osaka Winter and Summer Campaigns against Tokugawa Ieyasu, greatly tormenting the Tokugawa forces and at one point closing in on Ieyasu's honjin to the extent that Ieyasu was prepared for death and resolved to commit seppuku. This spear is also a jumonji yari, and since it slightly resembles the Ochidori Jumonji Yari, please think of it as "it would be wonderful if it were the Ochidori Jumonji Yari." The sugata takes the form of a jumonji, and the jigane is likely forged in masame-hada. The hamon is a skillfully tempered suguha. As this has appeared in the world for the first time in its raw state (ubu), we are offering it at a specially discounted price. Please enjoy this jumonji yari made by Ushu-ju Sadayoshi.

We could not find an authenticity certificate on the seller’s listing. Japanese swords and fittings are normally papered by the NBTHK (or the NTHK). Without one, the attribution is the seller’s own assessment and has not been independently verified — treat it with caution and ask the dealer about certification before buying.
