The twentieth century nearly killed the craft twice: wartime distortion, then the occupation ban. The NBTHK’s founding in 1948 and licensed forging from 1953 rebuilt the sword as an art, crowned by Living National Treasures and the mukansa rank.
This is a modern katana by Enomoto Sadahito, a swordsmith from Izu. The blade features a gunome-midare hamon and o-itame jigane, modeled after Soshu Sadamune, and has just been freshly polished. It comes with a newly restored koshirae, including a new saya and fittings, presenting both blade and mounting in near-new condition.
