J131. Very finely carved iron tsuba with gold and silver inlay. Signed, according to its former owner, by Midori Kawa (I was unable to find anything about this artist). 7 x 7.5 x .5 cm. The nakago hitsu-ana is.7 x 2.7 cm. A village scene reminiscent of the work of Kaneiye but in a totally different style. The mimi especially is quite fancilly worked. This was once in a museum somewhere – note the # 941 painted inside the nakago hitsu-ana – and it has been coated in clear lacquer. It was also included in the bookTsubas in Southern Californiaby Hawley (see my listing B801): page 179, #887. Condition is excellent. $325.
