This is an antique Japanese Yoroidōshi Tantō, signed "Masatsune" (政常), a distinguished retained smith of the Owari school. It is a massively thick, mu-sori hira-zukuri blade in shirasaya with a gold-clad habaki, designed for armor-piercing. The blade is in excellent, freshly polished condition with an itame mixed with mokume jigane and an uneven gunome hamon.

The Edo period (1615 to 1868)
For two and a half centuries of peace the sword was the warrior’s legal badge rather than his weapon. Each great city developed its own manner, Edo’s tested strength against Ōsaka’s polished brilliance, until demand thinned in the era’s last decades.
We could not find an authenticity certificate on the seller’s listing. Japanese swords and fittings are normally papered by the NBTHK (or the NTHK). Without one, the attribution is the seller’s own assessment and has not been independently verified — treat it with caution and ask the dealer about certification before buying.
