About the maker
Mishina Hisamichi久道
The first generation Omi no Kami Minamoto no Hisamichi, born Hotta Tarobe in the 3rd year of Kan'ei (1626) (397 years ago) of the Edo period. He entered the school of the 2nd generation Iga no Kami Kinmichi and, having mastered the craft exceptionally well, was granted the Mishina surname. He forged swords in a style resembling his master, Iga no Kami Kinmichi. Hisamichi is evaluated as Ryo-wazamono due to his blades being remarkably sharp cutters. This wakizashi is a tokubetsu chumon-hin (special order piece) with a thick kasane, wide moto-mihaba, and wide saki-mihaba, presenting a goso (magnificent/sturdy) sugata. The jigane is a well-tightened itame-hada, forged into a powerful steel. The hamon is a nioi-deki large notare-ba with pointed gunome, creating an original and well-executed edge. The boshi is a slightly sagging Mishina-boshi, which is a highlight and is wonderfully crafted. As expected, it is a Ryo-wazamono special order wakizashi that looks as though it would cut exceptionally well. As this piece has emerged into the world for the first time in several decades, it is being offered at a special discount price. Please enjoy this famous wakizashi, a special order piece by the first generation Omi no Kami Minamoto no Hisamichi, who was granted the highly honorable Mishina surname of that era, led by the glory of Kyo-Yamashiro's Iga no Kami Kinmichi.
