The curved, ridged tachi took its classic form in the Heian provinces while the court refined its culture in the capital. Its patrons were the military nobility whose feuds ended in the Genpei War, and whose blades became heirlooms almost at once.
This listing is for a daisho set, featuring a katana attributed to Namihei and a wakizashi by Sukesada. The Namihei katana, from a school active for 900 years in Satsuma, is unsigned but attributed to the school. The Sukesada wakizashi is a work by the renowned smith group active in Bizen Osafune during the late Muromachi period. Both blades come with NBTHK Kicho Token certificates.
